TRICK TIPS

So you just started skating and you want to improve? Here are some tips to help you get better and master the basics of skateboarding:

OLLIE / POP-SHUVIT / FS 180 / KICKFLIP

THE OLLIE

The pop-shuvit is also one of the most basic tricks. It is where the board spins 180 under your feet, and you don't turn with it.

1. Set your feet up in the position shown in the picture. This would be for a regular stance skater, so if you are goofy, switch it round. Sometimes it is good to put your back foot with slightly less of your heel hanging off.

2. Pop the board like you would for an ollie but this time kick it behind you to start the board's rotation. Some people like to do this trick standing still but it is better to learn it moving so you don't get into any bad habits.

3. When the board has finished the rotation or when you can't stay up any more plant your feet on the board. If your pop shuvits are good and they go in the air, catch it with one of your feet depending on which is easier for you.

4. Practise this trick a lot and you'll get it someday!

To help you get tricks like the pop-shuvit, watch your friends do it which always helps. Watch skate videos in slow motion and stuff too.
